What Role Does Microbiology Play in Diet?

When researching different lifestyle diet plans, there is a vast amount of dietary information available to address various health challenges or health specialties such as weight loss, heart health, diabetes, arthritis, etc. Yet when it comes to addressing an overall individualized approach to one’s dietary concerns, none of the mainstream diets available works for everyone—or even a majority.

In looking at various approaches to overall health, only the programs set up around the action and condition of the blood—with regard to food and drink intake—seem to have any long-term relevance or value. Such programs are the result of studies, which are directly related to microbiology.  These studies have enabled microbiologists and naturopathic doctors alike to determine how different foods are assimilated and otherwise processed in the blood on a cellular level. One such diet is the Blood Type Diet.

What is the Blood Type Diet?

This diet is one based on one’s blood type and seeks to uncover more effective health solutions based on our inherent nutritional needs and differences. Because each blood type is genuinely unique, each one of us faces different health concerns, benefits from different dietary guidelines, and requires personalized health solutions customized to our own bio-chemical individuality. With this in mind, we can familiarize ourselves with our own blood type profile and utilize this information as a baseline for a health dietary plan.

Something Similar

A second diet, which is also derived from the science of microbiology, is the pH (Miracle) diet. This diet recommends eating an 80/20 intake ratio of alkaline versus acidic foods. This dietary program is based on scientific studies of blood chemistry and viscosity. When this regimen is adapted, the health benefits of this practice are far-reaching, especially in terms of stamina/ energy, auto-immune response, and oxidation-reduction potential.

My Recommendation

My experience has been that if one can combine the principles of these two compatible lifestyle regimens, optimal health can not only be attained but can also be easily maintained. The Blood Type diet articulates which foods (not food groups) are most beneficial to your individualized needs, while the pH Diet gives you a dietary plan regarding ratios of alkaline vs acidic food intake. Information regarding juicing, raw food benefits, green powder supplementation and other “strategies” are also presented in order to make your dietary plan more tailored to your individual preferences.

In addition, both of these programs offer you extensive recipe and preparation guidelines to again give you options and diversity when considering your dietary needs. The pH plan especially emphasizes the need for optimal hydration, so as to maximize the short and long term benefits of any dietary regimen that you choose.

Again, my experience is that proper hydration and pH balance are key to any lifestyle dietary plan or healing regimen. I cannot emphasize this enough. Finally, these dietary approaches are not new—they are decades old—and information on both of these “diets” are readily available and easy to understand. Bon Appetite.
